A city more than 750 years old, the picturesque old town of Delft is ringed by canals forming a conglomerate of small islands, reconnected by streets and bridges. A renowned centre for fine ceramics, it also produced one of the most significant artists of all time, Jan Vermeer.

The 10th International euspen Conference will be held at the Aula Congress Centre, Mekelweg 5, 2628 CD, Delft, Netherlands, close to the University. Technical sessions will take place in the Auditorium with extensive exhibition and poster sessions taking place alongside.

An excellent range of hotels is available in Delft and nearby in The Hague for conference attendees. Morning and evening coach transport to and from the Aula Congress Centre will be available each day for delegates staying in The Hague.

Although a popular tourist destination, Delft does not have many large hotels. Most 3* hotels have around 20-40 rooms, are of guest house/pension standard and are typically less than 25 minutes walk from the university; some are just a 15 minute stroll away.

Travelling to Delft

The nearest international airport to Delft is Amsterdam Schiphol (approx 50km). Other options for European based participants are to travel to Rotterdam Airport (approximately 10km) or to take the train.

From Schiphol to Delft

by train:

The fastest and most economical transport from Schiphol airport to Delft is by train: Less than 45 minutes. Schiphol railway station is situated under the Airport Arrival hall. The platform direction Den Haag/ Rotterdam is accessible from within the arrival hall by an escalator. Do NOT take the direction Amsterdam. The fare to Delft Central is approximately €9.00 second class one way. Trains leave from Schiphol approximately every 15 minutes, although some trains are indirect and you will need to change trains in Leiden or in Den Haag HS. The timetables and tracks are synchronised, so changing is easy (same platform).

The train station in Delft (Delft Central) is near the city centre and most hotels will be within walking distance, alternatively there is a taxi stand at the square in front of the station.

by taxi:

Going from Schiphol to Delft by taxi is rather expensive. It is advisable to take a taxi at the stand and arrange a price beforehand.

car hire:

Major car rental companies are located at Schiphol Plaza, directly behind the arrivals halls.

They include: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt.

Travelling to Aula Congress Centre

by bus:

Buses from Den Haag and Rotterdam terminate at the Delft bus terminal, which is in front of Delft Central railway station. There are three bus options from Delft Central railway station:
From station Delft, take RET bus 40 (to Rotterdam CS) and get off at bus stop "Julianalaan"

From station Delft, take bus 69 (to TU Zuid) and get off at bus stop "Aula"

From station Delft take bus 121 (to Zoetermeer, Centrum West) and get off at bus stop "Aula"

At Delft Central Station buses to Delft University leave roughly every 10 minutes. You can take bus 129 (to Rotterdam) and get out at bus stop 'Jaffalaan', or take bus 121 (to Zoetermeer) or bus 69 (to Station) and get out at bus stop 'Aula TU'. This will take about 10 minutes. From there it is a 2 minute walk to the Congress Venue.

by car:

Delft is easily accessible by car although traffic in the morning and late afternoon is heavy and highways are often clogged. Parking space at TU Delft is limited therefore using public transportation is a good alternative.

The TU Campus is accessible by car via the A13, exit Delft/Pijnacker and exit Delft Zuid/TU‐wijk.

Coming from Rotterdam or Den Haag (The Hague), follow A-13
Take the exit marked Delft-Zuid (TU-wijk)
At the intersection, turn right into Schoemakerstraat
Take the third road on the left (Chr.Huygensweg)
Turn left into Mekelweg

parking:

The old city centre has been made mostly car-free, but there are two large car parks at the edge of the centre (Zuidpoortgarage and Phoenixgarage). These car parks are expensive, but parking on the few public parking spaces on the streets in or near the city centre can be even more expensive. Beware of the signs "alleen vergunninghouders" (only permit holders) in some streets in the vicinity of the city centre, especially in residential areas. Unauthorized parking in those streets will cost you about €60.

by tram:

Delft is a short tram ride from Den Haag. Tram line 1 from Den Haag (HS) runs to Delft and has stops near the city centre and railway station. Travelling time is approximately 20 minutes from the center of Den Haag to the center of Delft. From Scheveningen to Delft takes approximately 45 mins.
